- Justin Clapick, Deschutes Growery
Justin Clapick is the co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer for Deschutes Growery. Starting from his garage and ultimately building one of the most recognized indoor vertical grow facilities. In 2019 they were presented with the ‘Resource Innovation Institute’s Energy Innovation Award’ by the Cultivation Classic; Oregon’s foremost organic cannabis competition. Justin knows what truly drives innovation in one of the most competitive cannabis markets in the world and it’s not just his support of LED lighting — it’s how well you connect sustainability in all aspects of business while adapting to all but certain market disruptions. Bend, Oregon based Deschutes Growery utilizes a combination of onsite solar generation and LEDs to power their recreational licensed cannabis facility. Designed to maximize real estate sq/ft and optimized to save over 2.5 million kWh in annual electricity usage, removing over 1,361 tons of annual carbon dioxide from the environment. Justin holds a BS in Economics from Arizona State University.
- Robert Elam, 7 Points Oregon
Robert has been a cultivator for 13 years specializing in indoor products and is the Co-Owner and President of 7 Points Oregon. 7 Points is an indoor cultivation facility in Portland, Oregon founded in 2014. Their mission is to elevate the potential of their plants with emphasis on quality. 7 Points utilizes only organic, plant based nutrients that focus on terpene expression. They believe in creating a quality organic product focusing on sustainability and being a good member of our community. 7 Points has won four awards, Dope Cup 2017 1st place best hybrid (Albert Walker), Dope Cup 2017 1st place Highest THC (Sweet Relief OG), Dope Cup 2018 Runner Up Highest THC, and Cultivation Classic 2018 THC Indoor
- Jesce Horton, LOWD
Jesce is Founder and CEO of LOWD, a craft cultivation brand in Portland, an award winning cultivator (Dope Cup 2016, among others), an RII Board Member and member of RII’s HVAC Working Group.
- Kelson Redding, Energy Trust of Oregon
Kelson Redding is an Energy Engineer at Energy 350. A large part of his last three years has been dedicated to working with Energy Trust of Oregon to influence Oregon’s indoor cultivators to make energy efficient choices when selecting their HVAC and dehumidification choices. Through this work he has analyzed many different HVAC system designs for cannabis facilities and has developed a thorough understanding of the demands of the environment. Kelson’s background is in mechanical engineering and manufacturing where he has cultivated a detailed approach to finding presenting practical
solutions.
- Kim Trewhella
Kim Trewhella is the Owner and Lead Grower of High Ridge Farms, LLC, a boutique indoor cultivation facility. In 2010, High Ridge Farms was built as an eco-friendly, partially geothermally powered indoor medical building located in Clackamas County. Since receiving Tier II Mixed Use Producer License in December of 2017, HRF flower is available in Gladstone, McMinnville, Newberg and Monmouth. Kim also spends time in collaboration with local businesses as well as state and county agencies to help build a better industry and continues to lead the way hosting events and eventually agri-tourism in the cannabis and hemp industries.
- Mike Zartarian, Zartarian Engineering
Mike grew up in the agricultural community of the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. There he developed a deep respect for both conventional and small scale organic production methods. He attended Northeastern University earning a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering, and spent the first part of his career designing speaker systems and audio electronics for performing musicians. The switch to precision agriculture came naturally, and he has worked on a wide variety of projects in both cannabis and vegetable production, focusing on LED systems, sensors, power systems and facility design. Mike is the principal of Zartarian Engineering in Boston, MA.
