RII Announces First-of-its-kind, CEA-Focused Report on United States Department of Agriculture Census of Agriculture Findings

Report and upcoming webinar highlights trends and opportunities for CEA growers, vendors and stakeholders

PORTLAND, Ore. (August 1, 2024)Resource Innovation Institute (RII), a not-for-profit, public-private partnership advancing community resilience, announced today the release of a first-of-its-kind report summarizing trends and findings relevant to controlled environments from the United State Department of Agriculture’s 2022 Census of Agriculture. To coincide with the release, RII will host a webinar on August 7th, offering a comprehensive overview of the report’s key insights. The report is available for download from RII’s resource catalog at this link.

“This report is a result of extensive analysis and collaboration within the industry,” said Derek Smith, Executive Director of Resource Innovation Institute. “By presenting this data in a clear and actionable format, we aim to empower industry stakeholders to make informed decisions that drive sustainability and innovation. This report is designed to articulate the shape of the sector and how it has changed to help guide businesses in the CEA market.”

The report highlights significant 10-year trends in controlled environment production, providing valuable insights for industry professionals looking at the U.S. market potential for CEA. The report includes thoughtfully designed data visualizations and digestible pieces of information, enabling stakeholders to easily understand and act on the findings.

The report will be available in two versions: a free preview for the public and a more extensive version alongside raw data tables accessible to RII members or available for purchase by non-members. The comprehensive version delves deeper into the data, offering detailed analysis and actionable insights:

RII will be hosting an upcoming webinar featuring Research Horticulturist Dr. James Altland of the USDA ARS Application Technology Research Unit. In this webinar the panelists will detail the report’s key insights and answer any questions related to the trends.
